There's something to be said of the off-kilter 90s-redux bomber. The swishy stable has made a comeback - albeit never having really taken a farflung vacation but nonetheless boisterously announcing its arrival with a bang like a chica making her entrance at a Quinceanera in a glittery froth of a dress. While the satin bomber has seen its fair share of variations through the years (the 80s was its heyday but the 90s was the more sporty, Crayola-bright take on the jacket that I so adore).
This tale as old as time is now the one thing you ought to buy. Sartorially speaking, this ruby-red satin Marc by Marc Jacobs is a slam dunk (get it? Oh, not funny. Okay. I'll stop. Now.) I'm loving it with distressed denim, a glossy shoe and a boxy bag in a milky tone - all ingredients that give the look a profesh factor.
Lest you be fooled by the presumably-limited ways to wear said jacket in question, this Mark E Mark one can be worn with everything from a midi skirt (a summer white skirt with this jacket? Mull it over and get back to me) to a sleek tuxedo trouser for a rejuvenated take on menswear. Unfortunately, the price point for this puppy is flinch-worthy - $548 snackaroos - so I took the liberty of rounding up outstanding options from the Interwebs that have the same lustrous appeal as the Marc for a lesser-than price point (and one that I'm so obsessed with, I could not help but throw it in!). Whether you blow two months' rent and splurge on the 3.1 Philip Lim rendered in the most tubular of turquoise I've seen since Blue Crush or save your dough with the artfully-printed pseudo-Oriental Zara option ($79), these beauties are far from banal. Sporty Spice but twice as nice!
